Payment methods

Your choice of payment method will depend on whether you are sending money from inside or outside the UK, and whether you want to pay monthly or annually. The following matrix will help you decide how to pay.

PayPal

Credit card

Inter-bank Transfer

Cheques/Checks

Advantages:

  • You don’t need a bank account.
  • A PayPal account is easy to open if you haven’t already got one (but you need to do this directly with PayPal, and upload money into that account, before you attempt to make your donation via this website).

Advantages:

  • You can pay by credit card via the PayPal website (in which case you don’t need to set up a PayPal account.)
  • You can set up recurring annual payments with a cut off date

Advantages:

  • There are no charges for sponsors using a UK bank account, whether you pay monthly or annually

Advantages:

  • Many people still like using cheques!
  • There is no charge for people using UK bank accounts.

Disadvantages:

  • PayPal always deducts a fee from your payment so we don’t get the full amount. If you want HELP to receive the full amount you intend to donate, then you will need to add the value of the PayPal charge to the amount that you send.
  • Monthly payments cost slightly more than annual payments.
  • It is not possible to specify a terminal monthly payment date, so, if you pay on a monthly basis, you need to remember to cancel your payment instructions at the end of the sponsorship (we will remind you).

Disadvantages:

  • As for PayPal payments

Disadvantages:

  • Monthly payments are prohibitively expensive if you are using a non-UK bank account.

Disadvantages:

  • We are charged a fee for processing a cheque drawn on a non-UK account.
  • They are cumbersome for us to process.
  • You have to remember to send a cheque each year (and we have to check that you have done so!)

Conclusion

PayPal is a particularly good option if you live outside the UK.

It is better to set up recurring annual payments rather than monthly payments.

Conclusion

This is another good option if you live outside the UK.

It is better to set up recurring annual payments rather than monthly payments.

Conclusion

Inter-bank transfers are particularly good for sponsors with UK bank accounts, enabling them to set up free monthly or annual payments by standing order.

Only use recurring annual payments if you are sending money internationally.

Conclusion

If you like using cheques, feel free to use them!

Select Method 4:Annual cheque

After clicking on the Submit button at the bottom of this page, send us a cheque in the post. Please do this as soon as possible after sending us your details.

I wish to pay*:

   £ (Sterling) per month
  £0 (Sterling) per year

N.B. It is important that you action the payment as soon as you submit this form to us. We inform the child's guardians as soon as we hear from you, and it can be embarrassing for us and disapppointing for the child's family if we have to withdraw the offer because the promise of a sponsorship has not been actioned with a payment.

Gift Aid

For UK tax payers, using Gift Aid means that for every pound you give, we get an extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue, helping your donation go further. So £10 can be turned into £12.80 through Gift Aid.

I am a UK tax payer and I want all donations I have made since 6 April 2000 and all donations in the future to be Gift Aid until I notify you otherwise: Yes
